From mid-April to the end of October, and then winter

The grotto through the seasons

A grotto is never the same: the light under the pergola changes, and so does what comes out of the kitchen. This is how the year goes at the Tre Lumi.

On a real restaurant’s website, photos of the grotto in the four seasons go here. In this example, drawings.

  1. Mid-April to June

    Spring

The doors open again. In mid-April we take the covers off the granite tables, clean the pergola and light the lanterns again. The chestnut leaves are still small: at lunchtime you eat in the sun.

  2. June to August

    Summer

In the shade of the pergola. The pergola is in full leaf and shades the whole courtyard. Outside it is hot, but in the cellar the boccalino stays cool even in August.

  3. September and October

    Autumn

Mushrooms, game and chestnuts. The leaves turn copper and the chestnut burrs drop into the courtyard. In the kitchen, the dishes of the forest and the fire come back.

    See the season: Autumn

  4. November to mid-April

    Winter

The grotto rests. From November the lanterns stay dark. The grotto is closed: we chop wood, repair the tables and benches, and get ready for the next season.
